Celebrating the Independent Spirit & Creativity of our Town

About The Festival of Halifax

This is an independent festival born out of The Grayston Unity bar in Halifax. The bar was awarded funding from the Arts Council to help secure its own future, but we believe that as a town we grow stronger together,so the decision was taken to organise a festival with the potential to benefit independent businesses and townspeople alike. An opportunity to rise again and present a broad spectrum of rich culture to immerse ourselves into.

The Festival of Halifax celebrates the town's creativity and independent spirit. Many of the events will feature musicians, artists, chefs, poets, historians and authors with a strong Halifax connection.

The festival will take place between May 11th and 15th 2022 across venues in the town. Some events have been curated by The Grayston Unity and other venues will be supported to curate yet more.

If you are a musician, poet, artist or involved in the cultural life of our town and want to perform/exhibit at the festival, get in touch.

Business Sponsors/Partners

If you are a local business and would like to sponsor the festival, there are loads of ways to do so, let's talk! We want the festival to be an annual event and this can be achieved if we raise further funding.

Host An Event

If you are a town centre business and would like to host a festival event then get in touch. We can help by providing funding and programming suggestions, if you need them.

If you can help in the lead up to the festival and especially at the festival itself then get in touch.

The Programme

We are aiming to have the full programme finalised (over a dozen events are already confirmed) and published by January 2022, though we will gradually add events to the site from the autumn. To give you a flavour of what's to come, we are delighted to announce some of the festival events including the first national exhibition in over a decade of John Bulmer's classic social documentary work - 'The North'. Live music from The Orielles, Julia Bardo & more. Venues already confirmed include The Piece Hall, Temperance Movement, The Lantern & The Grayston Unity.

TBC Julia Bardo & support The Orange Box (located just outside the north entrance to the Piece Hall)
TBC The Orielles & support The Orange Box
TBC Hope & Social The Albany Arcade, Halifax Borough Market

Tickets are available from See Tickets, Revo Records and The Grayston Unity.

As ever in these current times, some elements of the programme may have to change.

Support Us

The Festival of Halifax is financially supported by the Arts Council through a grant awarded to The Grayston Unity but to enable the festival to grow and return in the future we need your support. A Crowdfunding page will be launched shortly with lots of ways for you to become a festival supporter and help with the town's fightback from the impact of Covid-19.

Festival tees and other merch to be on sale soon.
